The African Society Foundation recognizes that many non-immigrant individuals and families have been greatly impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic. For many, COVID-19 is no longer just a public health crisis, but a humanitarian crisis as well. Families are dealing with unemployment, housing problems, food insecurity, medical issues, mental health problems among other challenges. Unfortunately, many non-immigrants do not qualify for unemployment benefits or other social safety net programs that are set up of such emergencies.

Travel restrictions and the inability of many developing countries to assist their citizens abroad have made it virtually impossible to travel outside the country. No one should live with such vulnerability. Even those who are not infected by coronavirus are enduring extreme hardships caused by this pandemic. It is for this reason that we are creating a COVID-19 SOS fund to respond with care packages, emergency financial aid, and telehealth services to those who are struggling.

As a non-discriminating charitable organization, we seek to provide services to all individuals regardless of race, sexual orientation or social status so we encourage you to apply for support if in need. This assistance fund seeks to help those who are most vulnerable, and we will prioritize our efforts on non-immigrant minority persons of color especially those of African Ancestry, Students, LGBTQ+, and/or undocumented. We hope to cater to as many people as possible with the limited funds available. We urge you to sign up as a community liaison, volunteer to deliver care packages, donate non-perishable food items, provide telehealth services as well as financial donations.

We understand that the need is huge, and we may not reach every qualified need, but we must not be discouraged. This is our contribution to serve the communities we live in and if we all do our part, then we will heal our communities. We will continue providing more resources and information about this COVID 19 response mission on our website at www.africansociety.org/SoS-COVID-19

We are in this together!
